June marks the beginning of summer, when fruits, vegetables, and herbs are at their finest with the rain from the spring and the summer’s sun.
With vegetables such as cauliflower, kale, mushrooms, and squash in season, the kitchen is an exciting place to be in the summer.
All of the vegetables mentioned above can be made into a main entre of a meal by adding simple ingredients such as garlic, onions, salt, pepper, spices of your choice, fresh herbs such as June’s arrival of basil, and a squeeze of the season’s citrus of your choice to add an exciting twist to your meal. This combination will pair well with your choice of protein.
In addition to vegetables, June is the month when fruits begin to shine. In addition to citrus fruits such as oranges and grapefruits, the arrival of melons makes a great addition to a summer meal: whether in a fruit salad, alone or made into an agua fresca. Add some cucumber to your drink to add a refreshing element of flavor!
For a great snack for the whole family, try freezing grapes to take on the go for your summer’s road trip or for the beach under the sun.
