Feeding Our Babies: Indigenous First Foods
Ages 18+ Only.
COVID-19 Vaccination Cards Required Upon Entry.
Embark on a journey with LA Plaza Cocina with you and your baby! This cooking class will begin with a brief platica, or lecture on how Indigenous midwives sustained pre-and-post natal diets in Tongva (current-day Los Angeles), baby food politics, and the ecology of the womb.
The lecture will be followed by simple comiditas (foods) made of Indigenous-based ingredients that serve to activate their ancestral taste buds and genetic memories.
The feeding stages of this class include 4-6 months, 7-9 months, and 1-2 years old.
Guest Chef: Professor Claudia Serrato, Ph.D., Indigenous Culinary Anthropologist; Co-Founder of “Across Our Kitchen Tables.”
